Super Pod LLC: Technologies we use

We're geeks and proud of it, but we're not going to try to tell you that technology is what we're all about. Successful development efforts result from choosing the right technology to implement the client's project, not by using the latest sexy language or platform. Here are some of the technologies that we use every day to build web sites that work:
Languages
Like many things in life, it's not what you say, it's how you say it. This is why we speak more than one language fluently. We're not tied to a single language so we can execute your project in a way that makes sense to you. Past projects include Perl/mod_perl/Mason, PHP/Zend, Ruby, Java, Javascript, CSS, HTML/XHTML/DHTML, XML/RSS, Java, Python, SQL, SOAP and more. Contact us for more information about how our diverse background can help your company.
Platforms
We're big fans of LAMP -- that's Linux, Apache, MySql PHP/Perl. Most interactive database-driven web sites use a combination of these technologies. But that hasn't stopped us from using Ruby on Rails, Java/Tomcat, ColdFusion or Python/Zope when it makes sense. We like Red Hat Enterprise Linux/CentOS but can take advantage of Solaris, Ubuntu, BSD and other linux/unix variants as necessary.
Databases
There are three major database platforms when it comes to the web, and we've worked with them for years: MySql, PostgreSQL and Oracle. Of these, we like MySql ease of use and commercial third party support offerings. But we like the PostgreSQL model as well...and understand the need to use Oracle for some applications. We've also built sites using FileMaker and Sql Server but probably won't do that again unless there's a really good reason to do so.
Web Servers
We've been using Apache for 14 years. It's the most stable, most popular, most flexible server available. Tomcat is great for Java apps, Zope is great for Python, Mongrel is great for pure Ruby...but Apache is our favorite
Commerce
We've built and customized secure electronic commerce systems on OSCommerce, VirtueMart, Miva, ZenCart and a number of other platforms. We've worked with all of the major merchant account and credit card processors: Verisign, FirstData, Authorize.net, PayPal to name a few. We've integrated product lines with Amazon Merchant Services, set up Yahoo stores and automated E-bay transactions as well.
Hosting
We really like virtual private servers. It's like getting your own miniature dedicated server for just a little more than you'd spend on a restrictive shared web host. We love Amazon EC-2's cloud hosting because it lets us scale up or down on a moment's notice and choose complex platform configurations in just a few clicks. We get our VPS from entic.net and have clients hosted by Isomedia.com, SliceHost and RackSpace.com. Please contact us for more information about web hosting.
Content Management Systems
Our favorite CMS for complex projects is Bricolage, but that's usually a bit more than what most businesses need. We like Drupal, Joomla, and WebGUI as mid-tier solutions. And we're very glad that Movable Type and WordPress have stepped up to provide the features that many small businesses need. We've implemented systems using Vignette and Interwoven as well as numerous custom in-house variants.
Is that all?
Nope. We're geeks. We're proud of it. We use stuff that isn't on this list all the time. We try everything ourselves before we offer it to customers....and we don't like most of what we try. Call us picky. Contact us to get an opinion on the right technologies to use for your project.
